At the Northern base of the Mézenc, the Devil's teeth (or Mézenc's teeth) are a curiosity rising uncannily from a coniferous forest. This walk enables you to discover these geological peculiarities in the forested landscapes of the mountain range.
When you come from Les Estables or Chaudeyrolles, and see this impressive volcanic summit, you understand the naming "Mézenc's teeth" (or, sometimes, Devil's teeth). In fact, this tooth is part of a line of three peaks rising out of the fir trees and bearing witness, again, to the volcanic nature of the Mézenc. This walk takes you close to these three rocks and offers beautiful sights on the mountain range, especially from the Peccata Cross.

Description

Take the track going downhill below the parking lot in the fir trees. Follow the main track. You will enjoy a beautiful view on the Chastelas rock on your way down, and then on the Roche Pointue (Sharp Rock) when the path goes uphill along big fir trees. You will find a path going along the road. Take it on the right for about 500 m up to the Peccata Cross parking lot. You can go have a look at the interpretive board about the Lignon Brook's sources and the water divide design furniture a few meters on your right. After that, follow the marked GR (long-distance path) track on the left of the stone Cross for about 1 km. Then, take the path going downhill on your left towards the Roche Pointue. Cross the little brook and continue on the path up to the road. There, turn left back to the Roche Pointue parking lot, your starting point.
  • Departure : La Roche Pointue, Chaudeyrolles
  • Towns crossed : CHAUDEYROLLES, LES ESTABLES, SAINT-FRONT, and LA ROCHETTE
